    Covid Protocols:

Many of our venues are wanting to move to less testing, optional masking, and no longer requiring but recommending Vaccine. We will continue to stress that that backstage continue masking and regular testing. Please if you feel strongly about any of these reduction proposals, please write send me your concerns in an email. Testimony, from actual crew, is far more convincing to management especially in venues that are already experiencing staffing issues.

    Venue News/ Current Negotiations

The Village: Ratification @membership meeting 11/28!!! We will post the new Contract on our website this week to be reviewed by membership for ratification at the next membership meeting. Please attend to show support to those who dedicated their time in this successful negotiation process that had multiple gains for our workers. To review this contract please go to our website.

5th Avenue: Local 887 and Local 488 will go back to the table December 5th to counter management’s proposal to one year contract extension with a 6-month wage freeze, and a 6% wage increase in the latter 6 months. We will be bringing several amendments to the contract to commit to an extension.

MT Baker: Mt Baker and both Local 15 and 887 have tentatively agreed to most language proposals. The locals have presented wages with strong wage increases and additional health and welfare contributions. The venue has asked for an extension in countering our wage proposal as they are working hard to meet this proposal. This employer has been extremely aggregable and has worked hard to create better working conditions and wages to be able to continue to staff their productions.

Cornish: After a year and a half, the Business Reps have been meeting with Cornish in person at the Labor Temple to finally streamline and come to an agreement with this venue. We have tentatively agreed to all matters once we have seen the wages in writing and hope to have a redlined contract to ratify in the next month.

Seattle Opera: Local 887 both filled and amicably settled a grievance in the wardrobe department during their production of Tristan. Local 887 costume shop and wardrobe department will meet this Monday for a Labor Management meeting to address the issues surrounding this production and the expectation that Local 887 and 488 will have a strong role and voice in who will fill the role of Costume / HMU director after the resignation of Seattle Opera’s current director.

Seattle Repertory Theatre: This month we held a labor management meeting to discuss and review concerns regarding meetings that exclude unit members and the expectations that the venue has been proactive in preventing the issues that surrounded last year’s difficult production of Bruce. We will also begin to schedule pre negotiation meetings next month and schedule the first few negotiation meetings in next month’s labor management meeting.

Teatro Zin Zanni: Management failed to show up for our final language and first wage counter via zoom last week. We have rescheduled and will now insist that our meetings be held in person and at the labor temple. This is the third instance of rescheduling but the first time they have failed to even notify they would not be able to attend. There will be a firm conversation regarding failure to participate in “good faith” bargaining at our upcoming meeting.

    Newly Organized Venues:

Local 887 will now represent full time, part time, and over hire costume and wardrobe employees at both Seattle Shakespeare and Book It Theatre. We will be negotiations for both at the end of the month.
